March at KODTC, No classes on Sunday 8th.

March was off to a flying start today with our March Foundation Class attending for the first time. The day was somewhat humid but relieved by a breeze which developed during the morning. It was a busy day for promotions with 4 dogs promoted from class 1 to class 2, 2 dogs promoted from class 2 to class 3 and one very special dog, Peaches, a Nova Scotia Duck Tolling Retriever promoted to class 4.

Our Socialization Walk at 9am was one of the busier ones with lots of our February Foundation class members taking part. The dogs got along brilliantly with both members and dogs seeming to really enjoy it. The Socialization Walk is an opportunity for dogs to experience walking with other dogs in a quiet, safe environment and helps develop their confidence and skills regarding respectful socializing with other dogs.

Flyball training also went well with 2 new dogs attending and most of the session spent focusing on particular issues of individual dogs (eg Birdie running down to the box more slowly than her run back to Max and Twiggs running back from the box more slowly than his run to the box!). We had a surprise visit from Gary and Linda who were flyball members maybe 12 years ago. Gary ran with a lovely grey staffy called Trevor. Gary, Linda and Trevor's time with the T'Keilor team is remembered with affection.

The next Flyball competition is at the Bunyip Show on Sunday March 22nd.

Next week, March 8th, is the Labour Day Long Weekend and as a result there will not be classes next Sunday. The club does not meet on long weekends with the aim of giving our volunteers a weekend off in order to do their own thing occasionally. Our club is run by volunteers and many of them are at the club every Sunday either instructing in classes or assisting the running of the club at the kiosk. Any assistance that our wonderful members can offer on a Sunday is much appreciated.
